We are joining over 27,000 schools across the nation to make a difference in the lives of Blood Cancer patients. Leukemia is the most common cancer in children, adolescents, and young adults under the age of 20. Starting February 4th, 2019, our schools will be working to reach a goal of $2,200. A letter and collection box will be coming home in your student’s backpack talking about Pennies for Patients, along with instructions for setting up their own online giving page. Our students are tasked with completing six missions on their two week journey to help find a cure for Blood Cancers in honor of local students and current patients. Lessons will be delivered through the school counselor during social/emotional learning sessions. A home link lesson will also be sent home for parents and families to engage and review each lessons topic. Look for more to come on this program! With the need to discuss school safety with students, we have been working toward becoming an ALICE school district. ALICE stands for, Alert, Lock down, Inform, Counter and Evacuate. We will be using the above story, "I’m not scared, I’m prepared!" by Julia Cook, to help us talk with our youngest elementary students about the possibility of an intruder within our schools and how to respond. Black Earth Elementary will be collecting and donating non-perishable food and hygiene items to Heights Unlimited. Mazomanie Elementary will be donating their collected items to the Mazomanie Community Food Pantry. Look for a flyer to come home in your students backpack with the details and "Pantry Needs" list.
